The Byford Skate Park – Stage 2 upgrades have reached a significant milestone, with the latest concept designs now available for public comment.

Residents are invited to review the concept designs and have their say via the Shire’s Your Say SJ page before the public comment period closes on Wednesday, 14 June 2023.

Two separate concepts have been developed by expert designers Skate Sculpture, featuring a collection of new skateable elements as well as seating and lighting upgrades for the precinct.

The new concepts were launched at the Shire’s second Byford Skate Park workshop on Tuesday, 24 May, with 50 of the suburb’s eager young skaters providing feedback on what they would like to see included in the upgrades.

Following this community consultation period and once a concept design has been decided upon, the project will advance to the detailed design stage before ultimately being presented to Council for comment.

The Byford Skate Park – Stage 2 upgrades are an $800,000 project funded by the State Government through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.

Planning for upgrades to the Byford Skate Park has commenced with Stage 2 set to breathe new life into the precinct located within Briggs Park.

Funded by the State Government through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, the $800,000 Stage 2 project will see the skating surface extended with new skateable elements, seating and lighting introduced to the park.

The scope of works for Stage 2 will include consultation with stakeholders, design and construction.

The upgrades will be a major boost for young people located in the Shire’s busiest suburb, offering a more exciting and accessible space to Byford youth.

The Shire will be holding a series of community consultation workshops where residents are invited to have their say on the skate park upgrades over the coming weeks.

The first workshop will be held at the Byford Skate Park on 7 March 2023, kicking off at 3.30pm.

“The Byford Skate Park expansion will provide a contemporary space for our youth, recognising the exponential growth around Byford.”

Comments attributed to Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale President Cr Michelle Rich

“Byford Skate Park is one of our Shire’s busiest youth precincts,”

“Located close to schools, the Serpentine Jarrahdale Community Recreation Centre and the Shire’s Youth Space, hundreds of our young residents make use of the skate park every week.

“The Shire is pleased to be working with the State Government to carry out these upgrades after our residents identified the project as a key priority in the Shire’s recent Community Perception Survey.

“This is an exciting step on our journey to providing better support for SJ’s youth and the Shire thanks the State Government for their contribution.”
