Development Application

Background

The Shire has received a development application for which comments are sought for a Change of Use from ‘Industry-Extractive’ to ‘Trade Supplies’ over the subject Site. The site currently operates for the purpose of sand extraction, along with treatment of material through a wash plant that washes sand that has been excavated.

The proposal would involve the following operational processes:

(a) Sand being sourced offsite and trucked in;

(b) Sand being washed, blended and graded onsite to be made into either a fine or a course material, commonly purchased for applications that include:

(i) wet blasting, as part of

Background

The Shire has received a development application for which comments are sought for a Change of Use from ‘Industry-Extractive’ to ‘Trade Supplies’ over the subject Site. The site currently operates for the purpose of sand extraction, along with treatment of material through a wash plant that washes sand that has been excavated.

The proposal would involve the following operational processes:

(a) Sand being sourced offsite and trucked in;

(b) Sand being washed, blended and graded onsite to be made into either a fine or a course material, commonly purchased for applications that include:

(i) wet blasting, as part of automotive repairs;

(ii) building and construction, including as part of tile adhesives, non-slip flooring,

paints, water proofing, grout and the like;

(iii) foundries and casting;

(iv) landscape gardening, including paving, artificial turf and sandpits;

(v) filtration uses by medical services; and

(vi) horse stables, as well as filtration media for fish farms, wineries and other primary production operations,

  • The final sand material will be stockpiled on Lot 422, prior to retail sale from the site, or wholesale transport to purchasers.

  • The proposal is intended to maintain the existing hours of operation, which are 6:00am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday.

The total number of permanent staff anticipated on site at any one time is between 1 and 2.
