Development Application

Background

The Shire has received an application for "Public Works" for a Fire and Rescue Services Fire Station at Lot 201 (169) Doley Road, Byford.

Being "Public Works", the development is exempt from approval under the Town Planning Scheme No.2 in accordance with the Planning and Development Act 2005. The application, however, is required to be determined under the Metropolitan Regional Scheme (MRS) by the Western Australia Planning Commission (WAPC).

The Shire as part of this process is a referral body required to provide comments to the WAPC to assist in their decision making process.

Any feedback or comments on this proposed development will form part of the Shire's recommendation to the WAPC.

The development includes the demolition of the existing dwelling onsite and construction of a new fire station which comprises as follows:

  • 6 dormitories and amenity spaces suitable for 12 persons
  • 2 bays for the trucks
  • Offices and working space
  • Storage area;
  • Training spaces such as the training tower and lay-down for fire fighting training, which incudes a training tower; and
  • Parking area.

The development will operate on a 24/7 basis. The activities proposed to occur from site generally during the day are associated with training drills and vehicle maintenance.
