Outcome

At its September meeting, Council adopted the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale Local Heritage Survey.

Background

In March 2021, we invited community feedback requesting updated information and new "place" nominations for the Draft Local Heritage Survey. This resulted in 87 new place nominations and 52 pieces of new information or corrections on to the previous 2000 version of the survey.

Following the feedback we received from the community, landowners of existing and newly nominated places were invited to discuss the possible listing of their place on the Local Heritage Survey before findings were presented to Council in December.

The Draft Local Heritage Survey, which includes the submissions mentioned, was endorsed by Council at the December meeting for the purposes of community consultation for a period of 60 days.

Following on from this decision the Draft Local Heritage Survey is now being released for public comment, including the considerations to classify proposals for newly nominated places, to ensure an open and transparent process to engage the community and landowners.

All place owners on the Draft Local Heritage Survey will be sent a letter advising them of the draft survey, the consideration to classify their place and the table explaining the different classifications.

Officers will consider all feedback received, and where necessary may engage the assistance of a suitably qualified expert to assist in reviewing this feedback before the Draft Survey is presented to Council for final consideration.
