The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale is inviting community feedback on Draft Local Planning Policy 4.16 – Tree Retention and Planting.
The revised objectives of the policy are:
- To clarify when a development application is required for vegetation removal consistent with Local Planning Scheme No. 3;
- To prioritise the retention, protection and the provision of local native trees on private land, streetscapes and adjacent reserves in the planning process;
- To promote and facilitate tree preservation at the earliest possible stage in the planning and development process, balancing with the desired built form and land use outcomes;
- To preserve and enhance neighbourhood amenity, character and sense of place; and
- To mitigate the urban heat island effect, increase canopy coverage, improve surface and groundwater quality and contribute to biodiversity and other environmental benefits.
The Local Planning Policy is available for viewing on the Shire’s website (sjshire.wa.gov.au) or at the Shire’s administration building at 6 Paterson Street, Mundijong between 8:30am and 5:00pm Monday – Friday.
