Parking

Background

The Shire is proposing four (4) hour parking restrictions within the business area surrounding the future Byford Train Station.

These restrictions are proposed in an effort to deter train commuters from congesting parking bays which will be needed for customers accessing businesses within the area.

Parking is included in the design of the future station, however commuters will be charged a fee to use this on-site parking. This may lead to commuters congesting the adjacent business area bays in an effort to avoid the fee.

It is hoped the proposed four-hour restrictions will help maintain open parking spaces for those wishing to access businesses.

    Hi Dan, good question!

Any parking included within the boundary of the future Byford Train Station will be controlled and operated by Transperth. Details from the Transperth website state that parking at any Transperth station will cost $2 per day, however is free on public holidays and weekends.

For more information on Transperth parking, click here.

    Hi Philip, thanks for asking!

The areas where these proposed parking restrictions would be enforced are already (and will continue to be) patrolled by Shire Rangers. Our Rangers team would be responsible for enforcing any potential infringements.

However, enforcing any potential parking restrictions included within the future Byford Train Station site will be the responsibility of Metronet and the Public Transport Authority (PTA).

    Hi Fiona, great question!

Obviously maintaining access for business staff will be just as important as ensuring customers have available parking.

Our team will consider permits for local businesses as part of these proposed changes. All feedback will be reviewed once the consultation period closes on Monday, 11 March.

If you haven’t already, we encourage you to submit your feedback via our submission form here. Please include information about your specific business including how many staff you employ, and how staff members currently make use of parking in the area.

    Thanks for engaging!

Josh Josh asked 3 months ago

    Hi Josh,

    Thanks for your question.

Parking within the Byford Train Station will be provided, maintained and enforced by the bodies responsible for implementing the station (this includes METRONET and the Public Transport Authority).

The Shire’s jurisdiction is responsible only for the parking bays outside of the Byford Train Station area. Our proposed four-hour restrictions aim to encourage commuters to make use of the parking available within the station.

With regards to your point about paid parking, our team has taken this on board and will consider your feedback along with all feedback received when the consultation period closes on Monday, 11 March.
