The Shire has received a MODAP application for a proposed Battery Energy Storage System at Lot 7 (580) South Western Highway, Darling Downs.

The site is shown following:

The development application seeks approval for the installation of a 360MWh Battery Energy Storage System that would be connected to the Byford Substation. The facility would not generate electricity, rather be focussed on storage and dispatching of energy to match network needs. The facility would comprise of an arrangement of batteries and infrastructure located within the western portion of the site, within four proposed sheds. The sheds would measure approximately 2029m2 with a wall height of 6m and a ridge height of 7.5m. The development would be set back 20m to the western boundary, 14m to the southern boundary and 25m to the northern boundary. Supporting infrastructure including four switch rooms are also proposed.

The application will be advertised for public comment and circulated to all relevant state government agencies. Given the application has been lodged as a MODAP Application, the Metro Outer Panel will replace the Shire as the decision maker, and it is likely a Responsible Authority Report will be presented at a future MODAP meeting.
