From your perspective, which areas should be the highest priority for the Shire over the next four years?

Improve and upgrade local playgrounds and explore the option of a district destination play space, and support community physical activity programs (e.g. pram walks, family events).

Improve the accessibility and inclusivity of children’s programs, spaces and services for all abilities, and facilitate opportunities for families of children with additional needs to connect with one another.

Improve access to child and family health services and increase coordination between local support services. (Relates to Action 1.4, 1.5 in the Draft Children and Families Plan)

Make it easier to find and access financial, family and housing support services and strengthen local support for families experiencing financial hardship (food relief, budgeting help, legal support).

Improve safe walking, cycling and road connections, and encourage family-friendly shops, services and activity centres.

Support the delivery of more free or low-cost parenting and early intervention programs.

Strengthen responses and outreach for Family and Domestic Violence (FDV) and child safety.

Expand children’s programs and outreach (including libraries) and explore the expansion of library facilities.

Support school readiness, early learning, out-of-school-hours care (OSHC) and additional learning needs (including in school supports and out-of-school-tutoring).

Create more opportunities for children to have a voice in local decision-making (e.g. Junior Council).

Improve information about local programs, services and events.

Support inclusive club-based sport and recreation programs.

Celebrate rural life, nature and local heritage through community activities and events. Provide more low-cost, inclusive family-friendly community events, and support neighbourhood connections through small local gatherings.

Build stronger relationships with Aboriginal and multicultural communities and organisations.
