The Shire's new Cat Local Law 2023 was officially gazetted in February 2024.

Background

The new proposed Cat Local Law 2023 will enable the Shire to better assist the community’s concerns relating to cat nuisances within the Shire. The proposed Cat Local Law will additionally consolidate the Cattery aspect of the Shire’s Kennel and Cattery Local Law

The key proposed enhancements are:

  1. Limiting cats to 2 per property
  2. Provisions for applying for more than 2 cats (permits require all cats to be contained to property)
  3. Provisions for applying for a Cattery
  4. Provisions for nuisance cats
  5. Prohibited areas - public places where cats are prohibited entirely
